Walking Bush Safaris
What makes a Big 5 walking safari so special?
Big 5 walking Safaris, if never experienced, is an exhilarating experience and something to add to your bucket list. Your five basic senses vision, hearing, touch, smell and even taste will be enhanced as you experience the beauty & sounds of the African wild.
An experienced armed guide leads such walking safaris with a back up trails guide at the rear.
Everything seems bigger, closer and allows one to get to places vehicles cannot or not allowed to venture.
Advantages are … small, personalised groups which make it ideal for keen photographers as you get up close and able to put yourself in positions often difficult or impossible from an open vehicle.
Its something you will treasure and be pleased you have accomplished.
An element of fitness is required and must be able to comfortably walk 10kms as we can cover a fair number of kilometres to appreciate the fauna and flora on offer. Should you have any medical / physical conditions that may impede your fitness & safety, please note you will not be allowed to partake on these trail walks, considering we are in dangerous animal territory.
Walks may be offered both early morning or late afternoon from your prestigious Big 5 accommodation. Those who prefer not to walk and rather relax in an open game vehicle, this catered option is also available.
This is not only a Big 5 walking safari considering other wonderful mammals you will encounter, numerous bird species that have been recorded allowing for many lifers to be added to your birding list.
Accommodation is very luxurious with all meals and two game drives daily included in your stay.
What to bring:
Good pair of closed walking shoes or boots, hat, camera, sunscreen, binoculars, backpack to carry water, snacks and other items; mosquito & tick repellent and your medication if required.
Ticks are a concern, so perhaps invest in a good pair of tick repelling gaiters or tick repellents. This will be discussed prior to your walk.
Once booking is finalised, further information as to what to bring will be relayed back to you.

Cat Conservation Project
The aim of the Zululand Cat Conservation Project is to care for Cheetahs, Serval Cats, African Wildcats and Caracal (Lynx), which have been orphaned or injured in the wild and are in need of care and rehabilitation. We also intend to breed successfully (where possible) with our ambassador animals and release the offspring back into their natural habitat. We pride ourselves on the many successful releases done in the past.
The Drakensberg Mountains
Drakensberg, the main mountain range of Southern Africa. The Drakensberg rises to more than 11,400 feet (3,475 metres) and extends roughly northeast to southwest for 700 miles (1,125 km) parallel to the southeastern coast of South Africa. Rock and cave art several thousands of years old has been found in the range. There are many game reserves and parks.
In 2000 uKhahlamba/Drakensberg Park was designated a Unesco World Heritage site.
The Drakensberg is part of the Great escarpment and separates the extensive high plateaus of the South African interior from the lower lands along the coast. From its northeastern termination in Limpopo and Mpumalanga provinces, the range extends through Lesotho to the Eastern Cape province. The range separates Mpumalanga and Free State provinces and Lesotho on the plateau from lower-lying Swaziland and KwaZulu – Natal province near the coast. The Drakensberg is the main watershed of South Africa and is the source of the Orange River.
